Planet Party Event: September 2021

Members of the Green United Youth Board did a fantastic job engaging with the public at a major environmental community event on 19 September 2021, held at the Railway Land and Linklater Pavilion. Representing all Lewes schools, the Youth Board meets monthly and plays a central role in shaping Green United’s work and priorities.

Amplifying the voices of young people — and truly listening to them — is at the heart of Green United’s mission. At this event, Youth Board members confidently shared ideas, answered questions and spoke with adults about the environmental issues that matter most to them.

Something equally important also took place. One young Green United stallholder became deeply engaged with a neighbouring exhibition on sea level rise and began discussing the topic with adult visitors, linking it to projects taking place across Lewes schools. This moment of curiosity and confidence highlighted the power of creating spaces where young people feel empowered to explore ideas, start conversations and be taken seriously.

Supporting this kind of agency — and witnessing adults’ positive response to young people’s enthusiasm and insight — is vital. It is through these interactions that young people gain confidence, communities learn from one another, and meaningful change begins.
