Sponsored Bike Ride: July 2025
Young people from Lewes schools successfully completed the Green United annual 9-mile sponsored bike ride on Sunday, 20 July, raising £725 for Love Our Ouse — a local group dedicated to reconnecting people with the River Ouse, from stream to sea.
The ride, organised in collaboration with Cycle Lewes and Dr Bike Lewes, will support ongoing monitoring of nitrate and phosphate levels in the river, as well as a series of public events throughout the year.
Pupils from all six Lewes schools participated, joined by parents, carers and siblings. The ride followed the Egrets Way from the Linklater Pavilion, departing at 2:15 p.m. and arriving at Rodmell Community Hall around 2:45–3:00 p.m. A short break for cake and refreshments preceded the return journey, with the group arriving back at the Linklater Pavilion by 4:30 p.m.
Previous rides have supported local and international projects, including bike servicing initiatives in Lewes and Zambia, and fundraising for Surfers Against Sewage. This year, the Youth Board chose to “go upstream” and focus on a cause closer to home — supporting the health of the river that flows through the town.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored the ride and supported the young riders in making a tangible difference for Lewes and the River Ouse.
