Big Ask 2026 – Progress Update

Following the success of the Big Ask 2026 (featured under our Projects page), we’ll be sharing regular updates here as each of the young people’s Asks begins to develop.

It’s still early days, but we’re really encouraged by the positive responses and offers of support we’ve received so far. Below is a snapshot of current progress:

The proposal from Rose, Mae and India was well received by councillors, who understood the problem and also expressed concerns about vape litter. Since then, the girls have been out mapping litter hotspots around Lewes. Furthermore, the Board has decided to use its annual sponsored cycle ride to raise money for bin stickers and possible bin improvements.

Fred Hoad is our Treasurer and has contacts in the Bonfire Societies. Sam’s proposal has led Fred to offer to speak with his Bonfire contacts to share the idea and explore possible support.

Chloe’s Ask has led to an invitation from ESCC for Priory students to attend a meeting of the East Sussex Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan in June 2026, where they will learn more about plans for improving cycling and walking routes in the area.

Rosa’s proposal has led to support from Tony Sharp and Cllr Wendy Maples, who are now working to try to secure funding to improve the footbridge cycle ramp.

The idea from Tove, Edith and Matilda has led to an exploratory offer of help from Ruthie Martin, Artist in Residence at the Railway Land, and Linda Lethan, Chair of Chalk Gallery.

The idea from Milly and Rose has led to an offer of help from Paul Macdonald, a local photographer.

The idea from Heloise, Arthur and Ophelia is being explored further through a contact at Glyndebourne Opera House.

The proposal from Sofia and Poppy has led to an offer of help from Susannah Waters, a local storyteller.

We’re incredibly grateful for the momentum building around these ideas and for the local community’s willingness to support young people in making positive environmental change.

We’ll continue to post updates here as each of the Big Asks progress. In the meantime, you can explore the full set of ideas on our Projects page.
